Adisadel College

Adisadel was founded on 4 January 1910 in Cape Coast. It began as the S.P.G. Grammar School, later became St. Nicholas' Grammar School and finally took the name Adisadel College after moving towards its present site.

The founder, Rt. Rev. Nathaniel Temple Hamlyn, wanted to create a grammar-school education for boys within the Anglican tradition. The school's historical sketch traces that journey from the original Topp Yard site to Adisadel Hill.

One of the most memorable parts of the move was the role students themselves played in building on the hill. That story has become part of the school's idea of self-reliance and helps explain why the campus is treated as more than a collection of buildings.

The name Adisadel, the striped uniform and the Latin motto all became part of a distinct school identity. Tradition is unusually visible here, from the way old boys describe themselves to the names used for different parts of campus.
