Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion Senior High School
About Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion Senior High School
Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion Senior High School began in Cape Coast in 1940 with six boys. Rev. Dr. A. W. E. Appiah founded it in memory of his uncle, the educationist Dr. James Kwegyir Aggrey, whose ideas about educating both boys and girls influenced the school's direction.
The school is mixed and is closely connected to the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Its motto, Semper Optimo Nitere, means "Always aim at the best."
Aggrey Memorial currently offers Agricultural Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science. SideScholar's programme guides can help you compare those pathways.

History
Aggrey Memorial was founded on 22 January 1940 by Rev. Dr. A. W. E. Appiah. The first intake consisted of six boys, but the founder's larger idea was to build an institution that would create educational opportunity for both boys and girls.
A Ghanaian Times history of the school traces the early years, the connection to Dr. Kwegyir Aggrey and the later role of the A.M.E. Zion Church.
The school moved through temporary premises in Cape Coast before settling at its present site at Brafoyaw in 1958.
Aggrey Memorial is quite literally a memorial built through education. Its founder chose the school as a way to continue Kwegyir Aggrey's belief in learning and opportunity.
Academics
Aggrey Memorial prepares students for the WASSCE through Agricultural Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science.
The breadth of that programme list means students can follow very different paths within the same school. Agricultural Science and General Science rely more heavily on practical scientific work, while Business, Arts and Home Economics build different combinations of academic and applied skills.
If agriculture is on your shortlist, SideScholar's Agricultural Science guide can help you understand the subjects and later study routes connected to it.
Choose your electives with the future in view. The programme that fits your friend may not fit the course or career you have in mind.
Admissions & Entry Guidance
Students entering Aggrey Memorial from junior high school generally come through Ghana's national school-selection and placement process.
Your BECE results matter, together with programme choice, available places and the placement rules being used for that cycle.
Old cut-off figures are not permanent admission guarantees. They describe earlier placement conditions, not necessarily yours.
Use the CSSPS portal for official placement services.
Facilities
Aggrey Memorial's large student population puts pressure on classrooms, dormitories and learning facilities, so campus development remains an active issue rather than a finished story.
There have also been meaningful additions. A Ghana News Agency report records the handover of a 50-seat ICT centre equipped with computers, internet access and a projector by the 2001 old-student year group.
Students considering Home Economics can use SideScholar's Home Economics guide to understand why practical facilities matter alongside classroom theory.
Facilities can improve and still have pressure points at the same time. Current information is more useful than assuming the campus is either perfect or neglected.
Student Life
Aggrey Memorial students share a school culture shaped by the A.M.E. Zion tradition, old-student involvement, sport, clubs, cadet activity and student leadership.
The school's digital portal carries the motto Semper Optimo Nitere, a short phrase that captures the expectation that students should keep aiming higher.
AMOSA, the old-student association, is especially visible around anniversary projects and campus improvements. That means current students regularly see alumni involvement in practical form.
The school community extends beyond the students currently on campus.
Accommodation
Aggrey Memorial is listed as a day-and-boarding school. Boarders live within the house system, while day students join the same academic and social community without staying on campus.
Because the school population has grown significantly, residential pressure has been a recurring concern. That makes it especially important to distinguish the school's official boarding status from the amount of space available at any particular time.
Your own placement is the final guide to whether you have been assigned boarding.
