About Asanteman Senior High School
Asanteman Senior High School was created in Kumasi because young people in Ashanti needed more access to secondary education close to home. The Asante Youth Association pushed the idea in the early 1950s, and the school opened in 1954 as Asante Youth Association Day Secondary School.
Students and old students are known as Nananom. The school's Asante identity is visible in its traditions, its relationship with Manhyia and the language students use about themselves.
Students at Asanteman SHS can choose Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts, with the programme pages showing what each choice covers.

History
Asanteman's story starts with a practical problem. In the early 1950s, Ashanti did not have enough secondary schools, so many families had to send their children much farther south if they wanted that level of education.
The Ghana Education Service annual digest records how the Asante Youth Association responded by establishing Asante Youth Association Day Secondary School in 1954.
The school later entered the public system and grew well beyond its original day-school format. Its name also changed, but the connection to Asanteman remained central.
This is a school whose identity grew directly from a local demand for access to education.
Academics
Asanteman prepares students for the WASSCE through Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science.
The programme list is broad enough to give students very different academic experiences within the same school. Science students will spend more time with laboratory subjects, while Visual Arts and Home Economics include more practical production.
The Business guide shows what students study in that option at Asanteman SHS.
Admissions & Entry Guidance
If Asanteman Senior High School is on your list after BECE, your application will go through the national placement system. Compare the subjects in Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts before choosing Asanteman SHS.
If you get a place at Asanteman SHS, your placement will show whether you are a boarder or a day student. Check your Asanteman SHS result on the CSSPS website.
Facilities
Asanteman has grown into a large mixed day-and-boarding school, and that growth places pressure on classrooms, water, sanitation, staff accommodation and student furniture.
Old students have stepped into some of those needs. A Daily Guide report documents an alumni project to provide mechanised boreholes and water-storage facilities for the school.
Student Life
The name Nananom says a lot about student identity at Asanteman. It connects the school to Asante culture and gives both students and old students a shared name that survives graduation.
The relationship with Manhyia remains visible. When school leaders visited the Manhyia Palace ahead of the school's anniversary, they presented plans for an entrance design inspired by the Golden Stool.
Sport, clubs, culture, student leadership and house activities give students other ways to become part of the community.
Accommodation
Both day students and boarders attend Asanteman Senior High School. At Asanteman SHS, boarders remain on campus after lessons while day students travel home.
If you get a place at Asanteman SHS, check whether your placement says boarding or day.
