History
GHANASS traces its beginning to 1943, when Fred Addae and Francis Adjei-Tetebo founded Phoenix College with 16 boys in a temporary building.
The Ghanass Old Students Association records that the school later became Christ College before taking the Ghana Secondary School name in the independence era.
The school eventually settled at its present Effiduase location and grew into a large mixed senior high school. The phrase "Beacon of the East" became part of its identity as the school expanded its influence in the Eastern Region.
GHANASS did not begin with its current name, campus or scale. Its history is one of repeated movement, reinvention and growth.
Academics
The current school register lists Agricultural Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science at GHANASS.
That six-programme list gives students several scientific, commercial, creative and humanities routes within the same school.

Entry to Ghana Senior High, Koforidua starts with the choices you make after BECE. Look at the subjects in Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts, not only the GHANASS name.
GHANASS has day and boarding students, but your placement will say which applies to you. Read it on the CSSPS website.
Facilities
GHANASS has a large campus serving thousands of students, and that scale creates constant pressure on classrooms, assembly space, dormitories, ICT and other facilities.
During the school's 80th anniversary, GBC Ghana reported calls for help with an infrastructure deficit and plans for a large assembly hall.
Student Life
Students and old students commonly use the Beacon identity, while alumni organise globally through GOSA.
Student opportunities also extend beyond ordinary lessons. In Koforidua, GHANASS girls have taken part in entrepreneurship and digital-skills training alongside students from other schools.
Clubs, sport, academic competition, leadership and alumni activity create other ways to participate in the school community.
Accommodation
Ghana Senior High, Koforidua runs day and boarding arrangements. Day students leave after school activities, while GHANASS boarders continue with meals and evening study on campus.
