About Islamic Senior High School, Kumasi
Islamic Senior High School, Kumasi grew from a Ghana Muslim Mission effort to create stronger access to secondary education for Muslim young people while keeping the school open to students from other backgrounds.
The school is widely known as ISSEC. Its motto, Allama bil Qalam, refers to teaching by the pen and fits a school that combines Islamic values with secular senior high education.
The programme choices at ISSEC are Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts; see the programme pages for the subjects behind each name.

History
Islamic Senior High School was established in 1967 by members of the Ghana Muslim Mission in Ashanti. The first intake was small, with 13 students, including one girl.
An Ohio State University study on Islamic education in Ghana draws on interviews at the school and records how the founders wanted Muslim youth to gain secular secondary education without losing Islamic discipline and values.
The school later entered the public system while keeping that Islamic identity. Its mission has remained explicitly non-discriminatory, combining religious formation with nationally recognised secondary education.
ISSEC was created to close an access gap, not to isolate students from the wider education system.
Academics
The current school register lists Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science at Islamic Senior High School, Kumasi.
That gives students academic, creative and practical options within the same school. General Science has a different workload and later option from Business, while Home Economics and Visual Arts require more hands-on work.
