About Juaben Senior High School

Institution overview and key context for prospective students.

Juaben Senior High School has lived more than one educational life. The campus began with a girls' school, became a Methodist women's training college and then opened as a co-educational secondary school in 1972.

The school is widely known as JUASS. Its motto, Nyamesuro Ne Nimdeɛ, means "The Fear of God is Wisdom," reflecting the Methodist tradition that still shapes worship, discipline and school values.

JUASS has Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts, and the programme pages can help you compare the subject combinations.

History

The Juaben campus first opened as Juaben Methodist Girls' Boarding and Day School in 1950. It became a Methodist women's training college in 1962 before changing direction again a decade later.

The school's official history records the opening of Juaben Secondary School on 3 November 1972 with 87 students and Mrs. Rose E. Coker as the first headmistress.

The land itself was donated by Nana Yaw Sarpong II, then Omanhene of the Juaben Traditional Area, so both Methodist and traditional leadership sit inside the school's history.

JUASS did not replace its earlier history. It grew out of it. Girls' education, teacher training and co-educational secondary schooling are all parts of the same campus story.

Academics

Juaben Senior High prepares students for the WASSCE through Agricultural Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science.

The school has also shown a practical technology side. It has recorded success in engineering projects and programming competitions, giving students examples of how classroom learning can turn into something they build or solve.

Facilities

Juaben supports programmes with very different practical needs. The Ghana Education Service has documented science facilities, a computer laboratory, a Visual Arts studio and a Home Economics workshop at the school.

Those spaces matter because practical work is not optional in several of JUASS's programmes. Visual Arts students need room to create, science students need laboratory experience and Home Economics students need specialist work areas.

Student Life

Methodist tradition remains visible at JUASS through worship, moral instruction and the meaning of Nyamesuro Ne Nimdeɛ.

Student life also reaches into newer forms of civic participation. JUASS students were part of the Ashanti schools represented when Justice Clubs were inaugurated for students in the region.

Sport, clubs, cultural activity and leadership give students other ways to belong to the school community.
