About Navrongo Senior High School
Navrongo Senior High School has carried the nickname NAVASCO for generations, but its first name was President's College. The school was established in 1960 during Ghana's early post-independence expansion of secondary education and was intended to become a major centre of learning in the north.
Its motto, Lux Borealis, means "The Light of the North." Old students are known as NABIA, meaning citizens, and many still identify themselves by the unique folio numbers they received as students.
Students at NAVASCO can choose Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts, with the programme pages showing what each choice covers.

History
NAVASCO was established in September 1960 during the presidency of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The school first carried the name President's College before becoming Navrongo School and later Navrongo Senior High School.
A GhanaRemembers history records that Nkrumah intended the school to grow into an important centre of learning for northern Ghana.
The school's horn emblem and the phrase Lux Borealis reinforce that northern identity. Old students use the name NABIA, and the folio-number tradition gives generations of students another way to recognise one another.
NAVASCO was built with a regional mission in mind: create educational opportunity in the north and develop leadership from within the region.
Academics
The current school register lists Agricultural Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science at Navrongo Senior High.
The school has long combined classroom study with practical learning, particularly through science laboratories, agriculture and the school farm.
The Agricultural Science guide shows what students study in that option at NAVASCO.
Admissions & Entry Guidance
Include Navrongo Senior High School in your school choices when you apply after BECE. Check whether the NAVASCO programmes (Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts) include the subjects you want.
Check the CSSPS website for your NAVASCO result. If you are placed at NAVASCO, the result will say whether you are a day student or a boarder.
Facilities
NAVASCO has a large residential campus with classrooms, laboratories, dormitories, dining facilities and other infrastructure built up over decades.
Current condition matters, however. A Ghana News Agency report documented problems with dormitories, staff accommodation and science-laboratory equipment, showing that some parts of the campus need significant rehabilitation.
Student Life
NABIA identity is one of the strongest parts of NAVASCO life. Old students remain organised across Ghana and abroad, and the folio-number tradition gives students a personal connection to the school's history.
At the school's recent speech and prize-giving day, the Ghanaian Times reported on old students, chiefs, parents and school leaders gathering around student development and the challenge of drug abuse.
Debate, sport, clubs, student leadership and agricultural activities create other spaces for students to participate beyond lessons.
Accommodation
Navrongo Senior High School takes day students as well as boarders. Meals, evening study and dormitory routines are part of the week for boarders at NAVASCO.
Your NAVASCO placement will tell you whether you are joining as a boarder or a day student.
