About Nungua Senior High School

Nungua Senior High School has an unusual origin story. Nii Quaye Tawiah first proposed the school. His teenage son had been installed as Nungua Mantse and needed to continue his education while staying close enough to carry out his traditional duties.

That family problem became a community school. NUNSEC developed into a mixed day-and-boarding school whose motto, Per Ardua Ad Alta, means "Through Difficulties to the Heights."

You can study Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts at NUNSEC; check the programme pages to see how the options differ.

History

The idea for Nungua Senior High was conceived in 1958 by Nii Quaye Tawiah, a businessman and prominent member of the Nungua community.

The school's official history says that his son, Enoch Otu Quaye, had been studying at Presbyterian Secondary School at Odumase Krobo. He was recalled to Nungua and installed as chief under the stool name Nii Odai Ayiku IV.

The young chief still wanted to continue school. Rather than send him away again, his father decided to establish a secondary school in Nungua and converted part of his own property into classrooms and school facilities.

NUNSEC therefore began with a practical question: how could a young person continue his education without abandoning a major responsibility to his community?

Academics

The current register lists Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science at Nungua Senior High.

Five programmes give students a useful range without covering every SHS option. If Agricultural Science or STEM is essential to your plans, you need to know that the school does not currently offer either one.

If Business interests you, the Business guide will help you check whether it fits your plans at NUNSEC.

Facilities

NUNSEC's official site lists computer and science laboratories among the facilities supporting students. Residential life brings another set of needs, especially water, sanitation and dormitory services.

A Graphic Online report documents the installation of a mechanised borehole and water-treatment facility for the girls' dormitory after the school had dealt with persistent water challenges.

Student Life

NUNSEC students are often associated with the name Ablade, while past students organise through the Nungua Old Students Association, or NOSA.

The school's motto is explained on its own website as a call to keep pushing through difficulty towards higher goals. That idea fits naturally with sport, leadership, clubs and the ordinary challenge of learning to work with other people.

NOSA gives current students another connection to the school's past because former students remain organised and involved in development efforts.
