About Okuapeman Senior High School

Institution overview and key context for prospective students.

Okuapeman Senior High School sits on the hills near Akropong and was founded in 1957 through the personal effort of barrister Charles Opoku Acheampong. He wanted Akuapem to have a strong co-educational secondary school of its own and invested heavily in making that idea real.

Students and old students are known as Adehye, meaning royals. The motto, Semper Primus, means "Always First" and has become one of the clearest parts of the Okuas identity.

The options at Okuapemman School are Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts; compare their subjects on the programme pages.

Institution guide

History

Okuapemman School formally opened on 8 February 1957. Barrister Charles Opoku Acheampong personally drove the project, acquired the land and financed construction before the school eventually passed into government hands after his death.

The school's official history describes a pioneer population of 182 students and six teachers, as well as the founder's ambition to create a co-educational school with a strong residential environment.

The royal setting of Akropong helped shape the Adehye identity used by past and present students.

Okuas began because one person decided Akuapem should have an ambitious secondary school and was willing to put resources behind the idea.

Student Life

The Adehye identity connects Okuapeman students with Akropong's royal and traditional setting. Brown and white school colours, house life, sport, clubs and old-student activity all reinforce that sense of belonging.

The school's inclusive model also shapes student life. Visually impaired and sighted students share the same wider community rather than being separated into entirely different schools.
