Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School
About Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School
Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School began in 1937 as Asante Collegiate. It predates Ghana's independence and is widely described as the first second-cycle school established in the Ashanti Region.
Students and old students are known as Ahenemma, meaning princes and princesses. The school motto is "Service to God and Humanity," a phrase that fits the long emphasis on education, public usefulness and old-student service.
The programme choices at OKESS are Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts; see the programme pages for the subjects behind each name.

History
OKESS was founded in 1937 by Rev. J. T. Roberts, a Sierra Leonean educator, under the name Asante Collegiate. It began at Asafo before entering the public system decades later.
The school's official history traces the takeover by the Ministry of Education, the move to Dichemso and the renaming of the school after Sir Osei Agyemang Prempeh II, whose private name was Osei Kyeretwie.
Population growth eventually pushed the school towards its Old Tafo site, which became the permanent home of OKESS.
The school has changed name, ownership and location, but its history runs continuously back to Asante Collegiate.
Academics
OKESS currently prepares students for the WASSCE through Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science.
The programmes place different demands on students. Science requires sustained laboratory and mathematics work, while Visual Arts and Home Economics involve more practical production alongside theory.
If General Science interests you, the General Science guide will help you check whether it fits your plans at OKESS.
Admissions & Entry Guidance
Entry to Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School starts with the choices you make after BECE. Check whether the OKESS programmes (Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts) include the subjects you want.
Check the CSSPS website for your OKESS result. If you are placed at OKESS, the result will say whether you are a day student or a boarder.
Facilities
The Old Tafo campus supports classrooms, science work, ICT, boarding, sport and other parts of a large mixed school community.
Old students continue to improve those spaces. One year group refurbished the school library, replacing and repairing major parts of the facility and providing furniture for students.
Student Life
The Ahenemma identity is one of the strongest parts of OKESS culture. It gives current students a name they share with generations of old students and ties the school closely to Asante history.
At the school's 85th anniversary launch, alumni returned to share memories with students and speak about protecting the school's traditions and standards.
Sport has also been important to OKESS, alongside clubs, cultural activities, student leadership and the everyday relationships built within houses.
Accommodation
Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School takes day students as well as boarders. Meals, evening study and dormitory routines are part of the week for boarders at OKESS.
When your OKESS placement arrives, look for the part that says day or boarding.
