About Sekondi College

Institution overview and key context for prospective students.

Sekondi College, usually called SEKCO, has educated boys and girls in the Western Region since 1951. The school began on a much smaller scale before developing into the mixed day-and-boarding school now based in the Sekondi area.

The motto, "Truth and Light," gives students two ideas to carry beyond school: be willing to stand for what is true and use what you know to make your surroundings better.

The options at SEKCO are Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts; compare their subjects on the programme pages.

Institution guide

History

Sekondi College was founded in 1951 and has grown into one of the long-established co-educational schools in the Western Region.

A Ghana News Agency report on the school's 70th anniversary highlights the role of old students in preserving the school's history and supporting its continued development.

The school community commonly uses SEKCO, while old students organise through SEKCOSA.

Seven decades of history matter most when each generation leaves something useful behind for the students who come next.

Facilities

SEKCO's facilities support classroom learning, science, ICT, residential life and clubs and other activities, but some of the most useful improvements have come from old students returning to modernise specific learning spaces.

In 2024, SEKCOSA handed over a refurbished chemistry laboratory and laptops as part of a wider effort to modernise science teaching.

Student Life

SEKCO's mixed community gives students room to take part in sport, clubs, leadership, worship, academic competition and creative activity.

The school has a visible alumni culture through SEKCOSA, with year groups contributing to laboratories, clinics, washrooms, furniture and other projects.

The phrase "Truth and Light" is also used by school leaders and old students as a standard for conduct beyond academic performance.
