History
St. Charles Minor Seminary was founded in 1953 at Wiaga by the Missionaries of Africa, commonly known as the White Fathers. The pioneer class consisted of 12 students.
The school's official history explains that the school moved to Tamale in 1955 because the city offered a more central and strategic location for northern Ghana.
The Catholic Church sustained the school for decades before financial pressure led to a partnership with government and eventual absorption into the public system in 2001.
St. Charles therefore carries two identities at once: a public senior high school and a school still shaped by its minor-seminary roots.

The current school register lists Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts and General Science at St. Charles.
The four-programme list is more focused than what you will find in some larger schools. That makes it especially important to confirm that the option you want is actually available before making your selection.
