History
St. Monica's history is tied to Rt. Rev. John Orfeur Aglionby and the Order of the Holy Paraclete, an Anglican community of sisters from England that worked extensively in girls' education in Ghana.
A history of the school traces the establishment of the secondary school in 1946 and the role of the sisters in building a culture of discipline and academic work.
The school developed separately from the teacher-training college while remaining part of a wider Anglican educational community in Mampong.
St. Monica's began with a clear emphasis on opening educational opportunities for girls. That remains one of the most important ways to understand the school.
Academics
St. Monica's now prepares students for the WASSCE through Agricultural Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science.
That range gives students more than one kind of programme choice. A student interested in science can take a very different path from someone drawn to business, creative work or family and consumer studies.
Before choosing Agricultural Science at St. Monica's SHS, read the Agricultural Science guide and check the subject mix.

Facilities
St. Monica's operates as a large girls' day-and-boarding school, so academic facilities sit alongside the spaces needed for residential life.
Old students have contributed directly to learning resources. A Graphic Online report records a major donation of books by old students and highlights the wider role alumnae can play in improving the school.
Student Life
St. Monica's combines Anglican tradition with the social life of a large girls' school. Worship, houses, clubs, sport and student leadership all shape the experience beyond formal lessons.
Students have also taken part in wider technology programmes. A recent GES Girls in Tech STEM Camp brought St. Monica's students together with girls from other Ashanti schools for practical work in coding, robotics and emerging technologies.
The school also has a long old-girl tradition, and the word Munche remains a familiar part of that identity.
