St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School
About St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School
St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School was established in Accra in 1952 as a Catholic day school for boys. From the beginning, it was meant to widen access to secondary education for families who could not easily afford boarding-school costs.
The school is often simply called Aquinas, while old students are known as Old Toms. Its motto, Veritas Liberat, means "The Truth Shall Set You Free."
St. Thomas Aquinas gives students a choice of Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science and Visual Arts; the programme pages set out the subjects in each one.

History
St. Thomas Aquinas was founded in January 1952 by Catholic missionaries in Accra. The school began in Osu with a small intake and was designed from the start as a day school for boys.
A detailed school profile records the Divine Word Missionary background, early Osu site and emphasis on Catholic discipline and character formation.
The school later moved to Cantonments. Its day-school identity is not an afterthought. It has been part of Aquinas since the beginning.
Academics
Aquinas prepares students for the WASSCE through Agricultural Science, Business, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science.
Science and mathematics are especially visible in the school's public story. Aquinas won the National Science and Maths Quiz in 2013 and continues to compete.
A MyJoyOnline report from the 2024 regional qualifiers gives a recent example.
The subjects within General Science are set out in the General Science guide; check them before choosing St. Thomas Aquinas.

Facilities
As an urban day school, Aquinas depends heavily on academic blocks, science facilities, ICT resources, sports areas and spaces for student activities.
What matters is not simply whether a facility exists, but whether students can actually use it well.
Student Life
Aquinas students are commonly called Gentlemen, while graduates become part of the Old Toms community. That language tells you something about the school's emphasis on conduct, brotherhood and identity.
The Old Toms leadership page shows an organised alumni structure with former students involved in welfare, professional work and support for the school.
