About Tepa Senior High School

Institution overview and key context for prospective students.

Tepa Senior High School did not begin as a secondary school. The school started in 1965 as a teacher-training college and was converted into a secondary school in 1971, giving Tepa a second-cycle school that has since grown into a large mixed day-and-boarding school.

The motto, Obi Nnim A Obi Kyere, carries a simple idea: what one person does not know, another can teach. It is a fitting message for a school whose own history began with training teachers.

Students at Tepa SHS can choose Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts, with the programme pages showing what each choice covers.

Institution guide

History

Tepa Senior High traces its beginning to 1965, when the site opened as a teacher-training college. Six years later, it was converted into a secondary school.

The school's official website now presents Tepa SHS as a learning community focused on hard work, integrity, discipline and excellence.

The teacher-training origin gives the school's motto extra meaning. A phrase about one person teaching another is especially appropriate for a school that literally began by preparing teachers.

The school changed purpose in 1971, but education through shared knowledge remained at the centre of the story.

Academics

Tepa Senior High prepares students for the WASSCE through Agricultural Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science.

The six programmes offer very different routes. Agriculture and General Science require sustained scientific work, while Business, Arts and Home Economics build other combinations of academic and practical skills.

The Business guide shows what students study in that option at Tepa SHS.

Facilities

Tepa SHS has grown far beyond the school that opened in the 1960s. Ghana Education Service records describe a large classroom base, science laboratories, a library and computer facilities.

The school has also benefited from district infrastructure projects over time as enrolment increased and older facilities came under pressure.

Student Life

Tepa SHS has eight houses, and inter-house sport is one of the ways students build identity within a school that serves a large population.

The school also participates in community education beyond ordinary classes. A Ghana News Agency report documents students taking part in a large anti-drug education programme with other schools in Tepa.

Clubs, sport, leadership and school events give students different ways to contribute beyond examination work.
