About Yaa Asantewaa Girls' Senior High School
Yaa Asantewaa Girls' Senior High School opened in Kumasi in 1960 as part of Ghana's rapid expansion of secondary education after independence. Its name gives the school a powerful reference point: Yaa Asantewaa, the Ejisu queen mother remembered for leading resistance against British colonial rule.
The motto is Love and Service. Students and past students are often known as Adehyeɛ, a name that carries ideas of dignity, responsibility and belonging.
Students at YAGSHS can choose Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts, with the programme pages showing what each choice covers.

History
Yaa Asantewaa Girls opened in 1960 during the post-independence expansion of secondary education. The school began with a much smaller student population than the large community it serves today.
The Yaa Asantewaa Past Girls Association UK history traces that growth and the succession of headmistresses who helped shape the school.
The school was named after Nana Yaa Asantewaa of Ejisu. Her courage gives the school a historical figure whose story is easy for students to connect with leadership, confidence and public responsibility.
The name is not decorative. It gives a girls' school a Ghanaian woman at the centre of its identity.
Academics
YAGSHS prepares students for the WASSCE through Agricultural Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science.
That broad range of programmes give students several different ways to build towards university, professional training, technical study or creative work.
The Agricultural Science guide shows what students study in that option at YAGSHS.
Admissions & Entry Guidance
Include Yaa Asantewaa Girls' Senior High School in your school choices when you apply after BECE. When choosing YAGSHS after BECE, compare the subjects in Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts.
When placements are released, check your YAGSHS result on the CSSPS website and note whether it says day or boarding.
Facilities
A large girls' day-and-boarding school depends on classrooms, laboratories, ICT facilities, residential spaces, dining and activity areas working together.
Old students have helped strengthen some of those resources. A Ghana News Agency report documents an alumni refurbishment of the ICT centre, including computers, projectors and networking equipment.
Student Life
The Adehyeɛ identity appears strongly in Yaa Asantewaa Girls' old-student culture. It connects current students with women who left the school years earlier but still organise around its development.
The Yaa Asantewaa Past Students Association USA describes its work around alumni engagement and support for both the school and students.
House life adds another layer. Houses carry the names of notable Ashanti queen mothers, so the school's history and regional identity are present in ordinary residential life.
Accommodation
Yaa Asantewaa Girls' Senior High School takes day students as well as boarders. Meals, evening study and dormitory routines are part of the week for boarders at YAGSHS.
Boarding brings evening study, meals, house routines and close friendships into the school experience. It also means capacity matters, especially in a large school.
Check the wording on your YAGSHS placement so you know whether to prepare for day or boarding school.
