About Ghanata Senior High

Ghanata Senior High began far from its present Dodowa campus. It was founded in Adidome in 1936 as Gold Coast People's College by Rev. Isaac Doe Osabutey-Aguedze, with Rev. F. K. Fiawoo also associated with the early school.

The school later moved to Dodowa and developed into the mixed day-and-boarding school generations of students now know as GHANATA. Its motto, Carpe Diem, means "Seize the Day."

Students at GHANATA can choose Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts, with the programme pages showing what each choice covers.

History

Ghanata was founded on 3 February 1936 at Adidome in what is now the Volta Region. The original school was called Gold Coast People's College.

A school history identifies Rev. Isaac Doe Osabutey-Aguedze and Rev. F. K. Fiawoo as co-founders and records an early intake of 16 students drawn from across different parts of the then Gold Coast and Togoland.

The school later relocated to Dodowa, where it established the campus now associated with the GHANATA name.

That journey from Adidome to Dodowa is central to the school's identity. GHANATA did not simply grow on one site; it carried an educational project from one community into another and rebuilt itself there.

Academics

Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts make up the programme list at Ghanata Senior High.

The six programmes give you a broad academic range, but each route produces a different subject combination and a different kind of school week.

The Visual Arts guide shows what students study in that option at GHANATA.

Facilities

Ghanata's facilities include classroom blocks, science laboratories, ICT provision, library space, dormitories and other residential infrastructure.

The school's 90th-anniversary programme in 2026 placed facilities directly on the improvement plans. Graphic Online reported planned work on modern washrooms, the ICT centre and science laboratories alongside improvements to the main gate and an endowment fund.

Student Life

Students and old students commonly use the identity Anyemei, while alumni organise through the Ghanata Old Students Association.

The 90th-anniversary programme includes career guidance, mentorship, academic awards, community clean-up, sport, health outreach and alumni memory projects. That mixture gives current students several ways to connect school history with present-day participation.

The motto Carpe Diem is often translated as "Seize the Day." In school terms, that can be read less dramatically: use the opportunities actually in front of you instead of assuming there will always be another chance later.
