History

History

The school at Nsein was established on 19 January 1960 with nine students and originally carried the name Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah Secondary School.

A Ghana News Agency account of the restoration explains that the name changed after the 1966 coup, first to Axim Secondary School and later to Nsein Secondary School.

In 2024, the school, traditional council and old-student community formally restored the Kwame Nkrumah Senior High School name.

The renaming is not a cosmetic detail. It connects current students to the school's original foundation and to a larger national debate about how Ghana remembers the people and policies that shaped public education.

Old students have supported dormitory sanitation, classroom and dormitory renovation and refurbishment of the infirmary. School leadership has also appealed for more computers, additional teachers and completion of infrastructure needed to serve a growing student population.

Student Life

The school's old-student association played a central role in restoring the Kwame Nkrumah name and continues to support campus development.

That process gives current students an unusual example of alumni, traditional leadership and school management working together around identity.
