About Sefwi-Wiawso Senior High

Sefwi-Wiawso Senior High was established in 1961 as a Ghana Education Trust school and became one of the earliest major secondary schools serving the Sefwi area. The school is often known simply as SEWASS.

Its history is unusually visible through one of its former students, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, whose foundation has continued to invest directly in the school decades after his own time there.

Students at SEWASS can choose Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts, with the programme pages showing what each choice covers.

History

History

SEWASS was established in 1961 as a Ghana Education Trust school during the expansion of secondary education under Ghana's first post-independence government.

A report on the school's history and a major dormitory project records the 1961 establishment and the motto Mate Masie, translated as "I hear and I keep."

The school later became the alma mater of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, giving the school a particularly strong connection to one of Ghana's best-known traditional leaders.

SEWASS's story combines national education expansion with a local identity that has remained important enough for old students to keep returning and investing in the school.
