About Sogakofe Senior High

Sogakofe Senior High, widely known as SOGASCO, was established in 1961 as one of the Ghana Education Trust schools created during the rapid expansion of secondary education after independence.

The school is also known as "the Lower Volta Varsity." Its motto, "No Cross, No Crown," expresses the idea that meaningful achievement normally comes after effort, difficulty and persistence.

Students at SOGASCO can choose Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts, with the programme pages showing what each choice covers.

History

History

Sogakofe Senior High was established in 1961 as one of the Ghana Education Trust schools created during the First Republic.

The school's official history records that the foundation stone was laid on 5 November 1961 by F. Y. Asare, then Member of Parliament and Regional Commissioner for the Volta Region.

Only 13 students, nine boys and four girls, reported when the school first opened. By the end of the first term, enrolment had already more than doubled.

SOGASCO began with a very small group, but it was part of a much larger national idea: secondary education should expand quickly enough to reach communities that had previously had fewer opportunities.

Academics

Academics

The current register lists Agricultural Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science at SOGASCO.

That programme range gives students several possible directions, from science and agriculture to commerce, practical subjects, creative work and the humanities.

The Agricultural Science guide shows what students study in that option at SOGASCO.

Facilities

Facilities

SOGASCO has grown into a large day-and-boarding school, so maintaining facilities is an ongoing job rather than something the school finishes once.

Old students have renovated and restocked the school clinic, rehabilitated the assembly-hall stage and supported other campus projects. A Ghana News Agency report also records plans to expand students' exposure to coding, data analytics and cybersecurity.

Student Life

Student Life

"Lower Volta Varsity" is one of the names students and old students use for SOGASCO, and alumni groups remain closely involved in campus life.

SOSA year groups support projects in health care, dining, technology, career guidance and environmental improvement. That relationship gives current students a clear sense that school identity can continue long after graduation.

Sport, leadership, academic competition, clubs and innovation activities create other ways for students to take part.
