About St. John's Grammar Senior High
St. John's Grammar Senior High began with only four students in Kokomlemle. John Hayford Mensah, also known as Kodwo Wangara, founded the school in 1954. A small group of partners supported his aim of widening access to secondary education before independence.
The school later grew into a large mixed day-and-boarding community at Achimota. What started in temporary accommodation now brings together students following six different academic programmes.
Students at St. John's Grammar can choose Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts, with the programme pages showing what each choice covers.

History
St. John's Grammar School was founded on 16 May 1954 by John Hayford Mensah, also known as Kodwo Wangara. He was supported by P. K. K. Quaidoo, Nana Essilfie Bondzie, Charles Ocansey and S. M. Arko.
A history published during the school's anniversary period records that the first four students studied in temporary buildings at Kokomlemle.
The school eventually moved from those modest beginnings into a much larger co-educational school at Achimota. The change in scale is striking, but the founding idea remains easy to understand: create more room for young people to receive secondary education.
When you walk into St. John's Grammar today, you are looking at a school that began with fewer students than you might find in a single study group.
Academics
The academic options at St. John's Grammar Senior High cover Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts.
That range gives you very different academic directions under one school name. A student choosing General Science will have a different weekly rhythm from someone in Visual Arts or Home Economics because the practical work, electives and assessment demands are not the same.
The Agricultural Science guide shows what students study in that option at St. John's Grammar.

Facilities
St. John's Grammar has had to keep expanding its facilities as enrolment has grown. Boarding accommodation, health care, classrooms and staff housing all affect the daily life of a large mixed school.
A Ghana News Agency report documented a newly completed girls' dormitory and the school's need for additional beds. Old students have also developed a modern sickbay with separate male and female wards and accommodation for resident nurses.
Student Life
Life at St. John's Grammar extends beyond lessons through sport, clubs, student leadership, creative activities and a visible old-student network.
The school's anniversary activities have repeatedly drawn alumni back into campus development. That support has included health facilities, furniture, dormitory resources and plans for staff accommodation.
Female students have also benefited from alumni-led mentoring and empowerment activities, including the Girl-Child Abiana Project launched by an old student.
