About Wa Senior High
Wa Senior High opened in 1970 as a co-educational second-cycle school with 70 students and five teachers. The school is widely known as WASEC and has grown into one of the larger mixed day-and-boarding schools in the Upper West Region.
The motto, "Knowledge and Service," connects academic achievement with the expectation that education should eventually be useful to other people as well as to the student.
The options at WASEC are Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts; compare their subjects on the programme pages.

History
Wa Senior High was established in September 1970 as a co-educational second-cycle school. It began with 70 students and five teachers.
A Ghana News Agency report on the school's 40th anniversary records those early numbers and the school's emphasis on discipline, good morals and academic excellence.
WASEC grew alongside the expansion of secondary education in the Upper West area and now serves a far larger student population than the first group that arrived in 1970.
The scale has changed dramatically, but the challenge is still the same: give young people a sound education and help them become useful members of society.
Academics
The current school register lists Agricultural Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, General Arts and General Science at Wa Senior High.
The register also identifies WASEC as having facilities for visually impaired students, making accessibility part of the school's current educational role.
Before choosing Business at WASEC, read the Business guide and check the subject mix.
Admissions & Entry Guidance
Applications to Wa Senior High go through the national placement system after BECE. Check whether the WASEC programmes (Agricultural Science, Business, General Arts, General Science, Home Economics and Visual Arts) include the subjects you want.
Check the CSSPS website for your WASEC result. If you are placed at WASEC, the result will say whether you are a day student or a boarder.
School placement is managed through CSSPS.
Facilities
WASEC has to support a large mixed population across academic, residential and inclusive-education needs. Classroom space, dormitories, dining, sanitation and accessible learning resources all matter.
In 2024, the school's 1989 year group renovated a classroom block and washrooms and repainted the entrance. The same Ghana News Agency report recorded the headmaster's appeal for more classrooms, a larger assembly hall, improved dining space and additional dormitory capacity.
Student Life
WASEC students take part in sport, leadership, clubs and community activities alongside their academic work.
In 2026, students were among young people who took part in a regional blood-donation exercise that supplied hospitals in the Upper West Region.
Female students have also participated in leadership and career programmes, including activities encouraging young women to consider careers in the Ghana Armed Forces.
Accommodation
Wa Senior High takes day students as well as boarders. Meals, evening study and dormitory routines are part of the week for boarders at WASEC.
Boarding adds meals, evening study, dormitory routines and greater day-to-day independence. It also means accommodation capacity matters when the school population grows.
When your WASEC placement arrives, look for the part that says day or boarding.
